The Sound of The Apocalypse

cover illustration

The Sound of The Apocalypse is a cover illustration for a master thesis on critical sound theory. The illustration was commissioned during the writing process.

I was sent draft chapters and some key texts to familiarize myself with the subject, and based on that I put together a moodboard with imagery ranging from mycelium to radiation damage to sound visualizations. An important aspect of this illustration was to get the right level of distortion and textures in an organic way. The next step was putting together some draft compositions, and from there putting together the final illustration which consists of 30-50 layers of distorted scans.
